STYLISH OCCASION: St Johns bar provides the ideal setting for the fashion event.

A TOUCH of spring is set to break through the winter chill in Wellington this week as New Zealand fashion designers launch their Spring/Summer 2013 collections

The latest designs will be revealed to industry insiders and customers at the BMW Fashion event being held at St Johns bar on the city’s waterfront this Thursday.

Cat-walk highlights include well-known designers like Trelise Cooper, Robyn Mathieson Design, Starfish and Taylor Boutique, Moochi, Julian Danger and Wellington duo, Phillipa & Alice.

Director of the show Cameron Sneddon says they aim to have a collaboration of national designers showcasing their current wares in a “social and intimate setting” where like-minded people can enjoy what the industry has to offer.

“We wanted to create a space for people to enjoy the industry, to network, and generally have a great time socialising and enjoying the lifestyle that fashion brings,” says Mr Sneddon.

Mr Sneddon adds that having the event at such an iconic Wellington bar will inevitably enhance the relaxed atmosphere that he and his team are hoping to achieve.

“We saw a perfect fit with St Johns and also the space, location and layout of the venue fitted our plans to a T,” he says.

Mr Sneddon is following on from his recent success as the director and creator of the first Wellington Fashion Week held in April this year and is pushing to build awareness of New Zealand fashion.

“The fashion industry is ever-growing and it’s great to have events like these to show consumers what is really available in the fashion market today,” he says.

“I think it is very important to have consumers involved in these events, and the feedback from the industry has really supported this.”

Mr Sneddon says he and his team recognise that in fashion, trade extends further than buyers and delegate attendees and that the public need to be thought of  and looked after, like in any other business relationship.

“No-one would be in business if it wasn’t for the trade from the large consumer market,” he says.

The catwalk show kicks off at 7:00pm on 9 August and Mr Sneddon hopes to organise more similar events in 2013.
